This program is designed for people who need a more intense program than
the two half days per week, but do not have the stamina, or have outside
commitments that prevent them from attending the full day program.
The modified program provides the same content as the full day program,
and is offered over a longer period of time. The program is scheduled
from 8:00 am to 4:00 pm, three days per week, and is five weeks in duration.
Lunch is provided by the hospital.
The day typically begins with physiotherapy, followed by an educational
session and relaxation prior to lunch. After lunch there is more education
and an opportunity to schedule individual sessions with staff.
Three to four months after the program has been completed, patients return
for two days of “follow-up” sessions. This is an opportunity
for patients to review their pain management plans and problem solve any
challenges with the staff and group members.
In addition, patients are followed individually and as necessary by the
medical internist and psychiatrist at approximately three month intervals
following completion of the program.
Participation in future follow up groups and/or the Chronic Pain Support
Group is an option. Attendance is arranged by contacting the nurse or
social worker directly.
