The Pain Centre is committed to the educational mandate of St. Paul’s
Hospital. As such, it offers educational opportunities based on extensive
experience and an increased awareness of how chronic pain affects all
aspects of peoples’ lives. Healthcare professionals, as well as
students from disciplines including psychiatry, psychology, family practice,
anesthesiology, nursing, physiotherapy, occupational therapy, social work,
and medicine, all benefit from these seminars and placements.
Some of the outreach activities that The Pain Centre has initiated include
sending staff to more rural areas to educate physicians and nurses on
pain management procedures as well as hosting visiting healthcare professionals.
The Pain Centre was instrumental in forming the Vancouver Pain Network.
The Network provides a series of ongoing pain management seminars open
to all health care professionals with an interest in pain management.
The Centre has an academic affiliation with the University of British
Columbia for teaching and research.
